The area...
This is one of the Algarve’s least developed regions, and in Sagres a friendly and informal atmosphere prevails, unhurried and quite charming.
Sagres, one of Portugal’s most historic towns, is set on a headland overlooking a picturesque harbour, within the boundaries of a protected but untamed natural park. Classified as an area of outstanding natural beauty, the park is distinguished for its landscape, geology and flora and fauna.
It is the only part of Portugal that shares two different coastlines: the southern coast and the western coast. In all, there are around 25 different beaches to sunbathe and relax on. Beaches situated on the south west coast tend to be more sheltered and are ideal for watersports.
Inexorably linked with the sea, Prince Henry the Navigator, who helped finance Portugal’s Voyages of Discovery during the 15th century, established a school of navigation near the town.
The Sagres region is all about the great outdoors, and guests of Martinhal Beach Resort & Hotel can either take advantage of the resort’s comprehensive sports and activities programme, or plan their own itinerary; hiking, biking, watersports...
What will the weather be like...
The Algarve on Portugal’s southern coast is blessed with sunshine all year.
May – September offers the best sunshine, warm and sunny with an average of 11 hours sunshine a day and virtually no rainfall, average temperatures ranging between 23 – 30 C, although the sea breeze usually makes it pleasant in the hottest months.
The Algarve is a year round destination and winters are mild and perfect for families if you just want to relax and be warmer than in the UK. Daily temps are 15-18'C, perfect for golf or tennis. You would expect rain on some days between November - March.
Sagres is the most South-westerly point of Europe and is typically windier than many other resorts along the coast, as such the temperature does drop a few degrees. The winds are particularly strong during July and August a popular time with windsurfers.
