The Area...
Southern Spain is a holiday playground and you can spoil yourselves with lovely weather, cultural trips, shopping, water/theme parks or sports both sea based and land such as golf and tennis.
Less than 10 minutes in a taxi is Estepona with cosmopolitan shops, marina and an old town still very much inhabited by local people. There is also a very nice promenade stretching for miles, fun to explore as a family with children's playgrounds as well as cafes, bars and restaurants. Lower key than the millionaire's playground in Marbella and Puerto Banus which are half an hour away.
Gibraltar is just 35 minutes away by car and as well as the well-known Barbary Apes, WW2 tunnels and the Rock the views of Africa on a clear day are spectacular. In fact a day excursion across the straight to Africa is an experience too!
Around 30 minutes also brings you to some more traditional family outings to Selwo African-style Safari Park complete with zip wire and a hands-on aquarium where you can help with dolphin training amongst other things.
The hotel can arrange golf and tennis nearby as well as a wide range of boat trips for all the family: see dolphins, lunch on board, swim in the sea, sail etc.
What will the weather be like...
The weather in southern Spain is very pleasant all year round with sunny days for the larger part of the year.
The main summer is from early June to the end of September when the average daytime temperatures range from 25 – 30 degrees with very little rain and an average of 10 hours sunshine per day!
Winter is warm compared to the rest of Europe with average daytime temperatures of 17- 18 degrees Celsius but rain is frequent especially in November and December, whilst January is the coldest month with an average of 16 degrees and 5 hours sunshine per day.
The shoulder months of April/May and October are an excellent time to visit with mainly sunny days and average temperatures of 20-23 ºC and just occasional rain. The sea is warmer in October though!
Summer weather is dry and hot with an average temperature of 30ºC, but due to low humidity the heat is not uncomfortable. In winter, the temperature drops down to around 13ºC and weather is very mild with the combination of mountainous terrain together with the coastline. Malaga weather can be unpredictable sometimes with few showers in April, May or October and even during winter.
