The area around Le Victoria...
Port Louis
The capital and main port of Mauritius, Port Louis was founded in 1735 and offers some great shopping spots. The harbour lies sheltered in a semi-circle of mountains, and the town has plenty of character, and proudly displays signs of it's historical past as well being home to one of the capital's largest shopping centres within the Caudan Waterfront, a short stroll from here will take you into the old market where you will be able to barter with the locals to get some great deals!
Grand Baie
Grand Bay (or Grand Baie ) once a small village is now a large town and owes its popularity to the enchanting quality of its emerald waters and to its liveliness by day and by night. It offers facilities for safe swimming, sailing, windsurfing, and water skiing, and it is also the departure point for deep sea fishing trips and for boat excursions to the islands to the north of Mauritius: Gunners' Quoin, Flat Island, Round Island, and Serpent Island.
Grand Bay and its surroundings also offer a large choice of fashion and craft shops, hotels and restaurants. You can find in Grand Bay traditional local shops, some operating for almost 50 years, alongside modern shopping centers and worldwide brand shops. Considering the variety of shops and shopping complexes, Grand Bay is definitely a top shopping destination for clothes, jewelry, textiles and for souvenirs.
Grand Bay is also known for its night-life as it hosts most of the island best bars and night-clubs .
What will the weather be like in Mauritius ...
Mauritius enjoys a typically tropical climate with year-round heat, although the southeast trade winds help it never to feel too muggy. The summer months are from December to April (daytime temps in high 20’s), and the winter, such as it is, runs from May to November (temps 24-27 Celsius), and is cooler and drier.
Rain occurs in all months but the wettest period is in their summer, December to April and tropical cyclones (usually Jan-Feb) could occasionally bring squally rain and winds. The South and South East of the island, being exposed to the southeast tradewinds receive almost twice as much rainfall as the north and north west. Le Victoria being on the sheltered West Coast is therefore a more reliable lcoation weahter wise, especially from November to May.
In general the best months to visit Mauritius are probably May to early December with May, September and October offering the best chance of little rain and good temperatures.
