There was a definite buzz at the Aphrodite from families with young children and teenagers alike during the Easter Holidays and it was a happy, excited buzz from both parents and their kids.
I booked the Aphrodite Hills for our family holiday with the aim of some luxury, good food, activities for the kids and some family bonding time - a bigger and bigger challenge as the children are getting older!
The set-up of the Resort means the facilities on offer are far better than probably all the other 5 star family-friendly hotels I have visited for toddlers through to teens, and importantly their parents!
The whole estate perched on a hillside overlooking the ocean consists of a Hotel and various small complexes of apartments, townhouses and then slightly further afield are the individual private villas.
There are then 4 key facilities (children's clubs, spa, tennis, golf) that are independent yet connected (you can sign for everything) as they are open to all guests.
Central to them all is the village square offering a well-stocked supermarket, bars, restaurants – even a Costa Coffee for you addicts and a fabulous kid’s club area and playgrounds that certainly the children I saw heading in that direction absolutely could not wait to get into the fun looking areas!
The children's facilities were completely rebuilt last year and are impressive. There is a creche and children's club with a large indoor room, separate indoor creche, outside children's club area with many toys, mini football pitch, mini basketball - these are part of the clubs. Additional to this and open all the time for parents and their children is a fabulous sandy playground with lots of exciting climbing apparatus plus a zip wire and mini golf.
Of course I don’t want to mention any here by name but I have been to quite a few hotels with outstanding tennis facilities for example but that when you turn up they are either deserted or you feel it’s a club atmosphere to which you don’t belong.
Not so at the Aphrodite Hills – the Annabel Croft Tennis Academy was alive from early morning until late with fun group lessons for kids of all standards – some looking more fun, others fairly gruelling, adults had their own groups/competitions too and there were always some private lessons taking place for those that wanted. The coaches were animated and enthusiastic.
The golf was a similar story – of course the 18 hole professional course is spectacular but for children or those that just wanted more of a dabble, it is a family holiday after all, there are great options. The academy 3 hole course – par 4 holes so challenging but not long is great for young learners and a driving range, pitch and putt and chipping greens. Friendly and welcoming yet professional with a few dress standards even for kids so just make sure you pack some polo shirts with collars.
There is a spa too which on the excuse of this report I did sneak into for a treatment – lovely!
The resort has 2 beaches neither of which are suitable for sandcastles as both are pebbles mixed with course sand but the colour of the sea is a gorgeous turquoise. Aphrodite is not the place for you if you like to step outside right on to the beach but I loved that with the flexibility of a car I could explore and visit different beaches.
