May Sunshine holiday Ideas for families

Posted By Jo MacGregor on 21 August 2013

With spring in full bloom and temperatures hotting up around the globe, May is a beautiful month to take a family holiday. If you have small children, the first few weeks are a great time to avoid the crowds, and jet off to a peaceful place for some quality time with your baby or toddler.

Families with school-age children can also make the most of the long bank holiday weekends at the beginning of the month, or take off during half-term for a fun-packed luxury holiday.

May is when the weather in the Med transitions from spring to summer, so those looking for cooler temperatures should travel at the beginning of the month. For guaranteed sunshine, head to one of the Med’s many stunning islands – for lazy days relaxing on the beach or exploring the picturesque towns and resorts that line the shore.

Those looking for something a bit hotter should head even further afield to the Caribbean, where sunny days and balmy nights keep temperatures in the late 20s.

Where to go

With warm temperatures and blue skies, May is a great month to take the kids away from it all for a well-deserved half-term break.

With a long weekend or two at the beginning of May, you could also take this opportunity to jet off somewhere quiet and sunny with your little ones.

For May, think Mediterranean island holidays. From Greekto Spanish islands, there’s so much choice at this time of year. With a diverse and dramatic landscape, Creteis full of intriguing places to explore and May is a great time to see Cyprus. The sea, however, won’t start to warm up until the very end of the month.
