Travelling with a baby can provide some challenges. Parents worst nightmare is being 20,000 feet in the sky and your baby starts hysterically crying. We are not promising we can stop the tears, but here are some great tips to help you handle them.
Purchase Security Fast Track Passes
Fast track passes for security in the airport only cost a few pounds each and are completely worth it. Avoid standing in the lengthy queues with your little ones, fast track will ensure the tedious experience of security is quick and painless.
Plane Attire
Dress your baby in the comfiest clothes, soft cottons with lots of layers, as you can never predict the temperature of the plane. Avoid trousers and tops, denims and tights and go for vest and sleepsuits.
Utilise The Cabin Crew
Whether it is retrieving something from the overhead locker or heating baby food and milk, ask the Cabin Crew team. This saves you from disturbing your baby trying to manoeuvre around the small plan and they are more than happy to help.
Distraction Techniques
Take your baby’s favourite toy or blankets as well as some new ones. Therefore if there are any tears, you can distract them with a new toy, hopefully saving the ear drums of your fellow passengers. However, remember if you baby does start crying, most people will understand. Keep calm, move about the plane, this will quickly distract them as they take in all the different faces.
Feeding
If you breastfeed, this will be really easy from your seat, although if you’re on a long haul flight ask the flight attendant if there are any unused seats or quiet areas that you can use for additional privacy. If they are eating soft foods, take their favourite pouches of baby food but don’t forget the wipes!
DID YOU KNOW? Breastfeeding or bottle feeding a baby during take-off and landing can prevent ear pain and popping.
Disembarking
Once landed, don’t rush off the plane. Make sure you have all your belongings and take your time as you leave. If travelling with a few people, have them leave with your baby whilst you scan your seating area for anything you may have missed.
